“Business as unusual” – the Seed Award 2008

Adelphi Consult supports the third international competition of the Supporting Entrepreneurs for Environment and Development (Seed) Initiative, which will be launched annually as of 2008.
The Seed Awards highlights innovative and entrepreneurial Multi-Stakeholder-Initiatives searching for sustainable solutions to urgent societal and ecological problems: In Ibadan, Nigeria, the effluents of an abattoir are used for biogas and fertiliser production, creating a sustainable source of energy while significantly reducing water pollution. In Vietnam, cultivating medicinal plants takes pressure off wild populations, at the same time offering an additional source of income for the women in the region.
The Seed Award offers innovative support for innovative approaches: Instead of a prize money, winners will be granted a tailor-made parcel of capacity building, expert knowledge and practical support measures.
The Seed Initiative, going back to the Johannesburg Summit on Sustainable Development, is itself a partnership of IUCN, UNEP, UNDP, several governments and a private sector partner.
The call for proposals will be open between 01 February and 16 March 2008. On behalf of the Seed Secretariat, Adelphi Consult will take on individual support to applicants and to the organisation of the selection process.
