Client: EuropeAid
Partner: Austria Recycling (AREC), Austria, Gurgaon Industrial Association (GIA), India
Duration: June 2003 until June 2005

Our partner company Adelphi Research jointly with his partners, Austria Recycling (AREC) and Gurgaon Industrial Association (GIA), India has been granted with a new project on technical assistance and capacity building of selected Indian industries. The purpose of the new initiative under the Technology Partnership tool of the Asia Pro-Eco Programme of EuropeAid is to enable technology transfer among European and Indian Partners and to carry out training and consulting activities on the basis of the concept of Integrated Environmental Production and Service Policy and Cleaner Production Practices. This project will enable Indian companies to actually adopt and benefit from the measures that they have been trained in workshops as well as onsite.

By training national/local trainers and companies the project will build local capacity in Indian industry in modern business strategies, organisation, quality management, environmental management, technology transfer, health and safety and many more in a combined approach. This knowledge is especially tailored to suit the needs of SME´s (small and medium sized enterprises). It is a fully integrated, non-redundant approach combining technical knowledge with didactic elements using interactive group work and building on group dynamics.

The project focuses on medium and large sized enterprises in the region of Gurgaon, India by:
• Implementing of a series of seminars on various topics like Emission Trading, Networking, Renewable Energies, Multiple project management, ECO-Design, Sustainability Management, Eco-Controlling
• Plus a series of ten Eco Profit base programme workshops for 10 to 15 new companies (preventive business principles; policy and motivation; environmental controlling and ISO 14.001; hazardous materials; cleaner technologies; energy conservation; business culture and laws; certification), carried out by our project partners.

Thus the project implements a modern active business strategy in many companies from diverse sectors and and trains consultants and representatives of sectoral organisations for reproduction of the project and sustainability of the concept.

The city of Gurgaon, nearby New Delhi, has successfully forged ahead in developing a sound industrial base with several large, medium and small scale industries manufacturing a wide-ranging product like machine tools, hand tools, heavy machinery tractors, motorcycles, scientific instruments, sanitary wares, handloom fabrics, medicines, etc. The project will therefore also aim at strengthening the environmental dialogue between Europe and India and encourage the adoption of policies, technologies and practice that promote cleaner, more resource-efficient, sustainable solutions to environmental problems.

This project is carried out through Adelphi Research.
